What in 2005 started as an aid project for tsunami orphans and people in need has long grown into a small village community.
At the moment about 150 children live in the project near Khao Lak, attend the kindergarten or school there and have found a new home.
On the 26th of December, 2004, a seaquake in the Indian Ocean triggered a devastating tidal wave: As a result, entire areas of the Southeast Asian coastal region were destroyed. The south of Thailand, primarily the province of Phuket and the tourist region surrounding Khao Lak, was particularly affected.

Many children lost their parents to the flood and required urgent help. The Bremen project and heavy lift cargo company Beluga Shipping GmbH has created an aid project for these children and their surviving relatives: the Beluga School for Life.
Construction work commenced in July 2005, after a suitable property had been found in the small village of Na Nai near Khao Lak. After more than a year of building and planning, the Beluga School for Life was solemnly inaugurated in October 2006. Until today, more than 150 children and adults in need have found a new home here.

Apart from residential buildings for the children and adults, the village on the premises of a former coconut plantation includes a kindergarten as well as a school.
In addition, the complex encompasses study places for the implementation of practical projects, an amphitheatre for events and performances, areas for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables, a canteen, a restaurant with kitchen and bakery as well as a museum. Very recently, the new guest area for friends, sponsors and donors of the project - including guest houses, a restaurant and a pool - was inaugurated.
